Expats need to be aware of scammers in the Netherlands!

Expats in the Netherlands are being conned out of cash by people that pretend to be working at the Immigration authorities (IND). The scammers often use official governmental phone numbers to call the newcomers and they are also in possession of their personal information, i.e, passport number, entry date, etc. They usually tell to the expats that they are illegally staying in the Netherlands, threat them with arrest warrants and demand money from them.

It is very important that expats are aware of this scam and never give any personal information nor proceed with payments since this is not the IND’s practice. If you have received such a phone call, please report it immediately to the Dutch authorities.
